Biography
Balajied Nongrum currently serves as the lead consultant, research and apologetics for Reasons to Believe Asia-Pacific (RTB A-Pac).
He holds a bachelor’s degree in veterinary science from the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University, Hyderabad. After completing his master’s degree in philosophy and religion, he went on to pursue a second master’s in science and religion from Biola University, USA.
During his undergraduate studies, he began to grapple with the pressing questions of meaning and purpose and how they are tied together with one’s existence. His transition from being a skeptic to an ardent follower of Christ was dramatic when he learned that Jesus Christ is not only the Savior but also the One who bestowed meaning to life. Thus began his journey of discovery that brought much joy in the pursuit of a relationship with Jesus as well as the conviction to proclaim Jesus as Lord and Savior to others.
For the past 15 years he has served in various capacities internationally as both a speaker and a trainer, equipping Christians to demonstrate the truth of the Gospel and also to engage non-Christians in productive dialogue. He has spoken widely and on diverse subjects, including ethics, philosophy, culture, science, and religion. He had also helped to supervise training programs in Christian apologetics, having designed the curriculum to training seekers of truth within the Christian faith. His articles have appeared in A Slice of Infinity and Engage, magazines that address the topics of Christianity and its cultural relevance, as well as in the peer-reviewed Indian Theological Journal. He maintains a blog at balajiednongrum.wordpress.com wherein he pursues his area of interest in the intersection between science and the Christian faith.
He has had the privilege on special occasions to speak in various academic institutions in India and abroad. When commending the love of Christ in schools, colleges, universities, and on the radio, his efforts have always been undergirded by apologetics. He is passionate about defending his faith and talking on the uniqueness of Christ. Central to his discourses is the intersection of science and religion, his twin topics of interest and specialization.
At the invitation of the Election Commission, Balajied spoke on Ethical Voting in the specially curated Shillong Talks, ahead of the 2019 general elections in India. He has been part of similar strategic state government initiatives on peace, which have resulted in positive outcomes.
Balajied, his wife, Coniefer, and their son, Jedidiah, make their home in the beautiful hill-station of Shillong.
